Yesterday I was low on fiat but needed to pay a large amount of rent upfront to my landlord. I wanted to do this while maintaining my ether exposure
Here was the process I had to go through, and how long each step took, and improvements that would be nice
Flow (~1h30min total):
- Pick lending pool with correct collateral/borrow asset (needed to be USDC/USDT for 0% revolut fees) + good borrow rate --- 10min
- Move ETH from various EOAs + from my Argent Vault (where I had ETH left over there from 5 years ago) to my @base Account --- 30min (lots of guardian approvals triple-checking addresses and test txs)
- Stake & wrap into @LidoFinance wstETH --- 10min
- Ran out of gas on my Base account, refill from another EOA --- 10min
- Deposit wstETH into @MorphoLabs wstETH / USDC pool --- 15min
- Borrow the rent money in USDC --- 5min
- Send to my @Revolut crypto account address --- 15min
- Convert to GBP and pay rent --- 2min (0% fee for USDC / USDT swaps on Revolut which is super cool!)
Gas cost: ~$25 (even though gas is quite cheap right now)
Slippage: basically negligible
Improvements I would like to see:
- Argent (now @ready_co) vault had extremely simple UI, with really safe transaction approvals
- Base account had slick UX / UI, there was one issue with the UI when it comes to syncing passkey changes from Base to Mainnet, but I messaged @WilsonCusack and he responded instantly and helped find an alternative way to do it and the team is fixing the underlying frontend issue right now, major hats off to him for the world-class responsiveness!
- For Base sponsorship is always smooth for me on non-Ethereum chains, but on Ethereum it would be great if I could somehow have used balances I have on other chains for this instead of being stuck in the typical gas Catch-22, and needing to fetch an EOA to give ETH from. Maybe there is already a feature for this, and I just don't know about it?
- Morpho worked nicely with wstETH and I loved the UI, everything was made really clear, however looks like some wstETH was left on my account after I deposited even though I clicked 'Max' when depositing. Also direct deposit of ETH into the wstETH pool didn't work for me, even though apparently that should be possible? Very possible that this was a 'not-enough-gas' error though so could easily be my fault.
- Revolut was really smooth and it's already my main daily bank account here in the UK. No complaints about the experience beyond that I think needing to wait for 14 blocks for withdrawal confirmation sounds like a bit too much. It's actually crazy that they offer 0% fees, gonna be difficult to compete with
- (nit) Lido Finance staking and wrapping was smooth on the UX side, but I don't like the way the UI looks personally, made me feel uneasy
Weirdly a lot of the time it took to go through these steps was actually just triple-checking transfers, and doing test transactions. I wonder if there are any wallets that specialize in this more with very strict, Argent-like transaction approvals ideally and a fully gasless experience (we at @pimlicoHQ can help with this) and a direct connection to Revolut, that I can just dig through and trust once and not have to jump between 5 platforms each time I want to do something like this. In an ideal world, this would take about 15-20min instead of 1h30min.
