Can the based revolution help bring Ethereum back together?
Great learnings from another episode of Bring ETH Back.
Here’s a recap of the based chat with @dumbnamenumbers (@0xfacet), @Junger0x (@rise_chain) & @gusgonzalezs (@taikoxyz),
Hosted by @AmMuroch.

“Based” isn’t just a vibe, it’s UX insurance.
@dumbnamenumbers put it bluntly: centralized sequencers don’t just risk custody; they can strand application state and nuke composability in a failure or bankruptcy.
That’s the underpriced risk based rollups actually fix.
. @gusgonzalezs added the hard truth:
Alignment only wins if it ships at parity on cost + latency.
If L2s can’t be cheap/fast while staying L1-aligned, the market fractures.
The mission: keep improving L1 scale and based tech until the economics leave centralized sequencing no oxygen.
. @Junger0x stressed on PMF:
The first real customers aren’t tourists,
They’re apps, institutions, and high-value DeFi that price counterparty risk for a living.
“Eventual inclusion” is a concrete value prop; payments may be the earliest obvious wedge.
With ZK, costs are falling fast,
But incentives matter. Expect hybrid designs, optimistic-by-default, ZK on contention,
Plus prover markets and aggregation so we don’t burn money on duplicate proofs.
6 - 12 months are looking meaningful.
So the ultimate endgame = synchronous composability.
Pack L1↔L2 (and L2↔L2) in the same L1 block so domains feel like one chain.
@gusgonzalezs argued only based designs can realistically get there:
you need assured L1 sequencing + near-real-time proving.
@Junger0x was wary of third-party shared infra, keep it Ethereum-native.
Then came a reality check: The choke point is blob space.
We need to scale blobs aggressively (6 → 9 isn’t enough),
And we need blob sharing/aggregation so small/new rollups aren’t priced out by incumbents with better compression.
Let’s look at the big picture:
If we nail cost, latency, blobs, and incentives,
Based rollups become the default,
Aligned with Ethereum, resilient under stress, and ready for same-block composability.
That’s how we Bring ETH Back.
