Pay wallet auto top-up FAQ

Auto top-up automatically transfers funds from your OKX Exchange account into your OKX Pay wallet when your Pay balance drops below a threshold you define. No manual action is needed.

What do I need to configure when setting up a rule?

You'll need to define three things:

  • Trigger threshold — the minimum Pay balance that activates a top-up

  • Top-up amount — the fixed amount to transfer each time the rule triggers

  • Funding sources — up to 3 sources, ranked in priority order to determine which is drawn from first

How do I set the auto top-up feature?

Note: please ensure that your app is on version 6.171.1 for iOS, while Android version is on 6.171.0.

Auto top-up isn't a scheduled recurring transfer. It's event-driven — it only triggers when your Pay balance falls below your configured threshold. It doesn't run on a fixed time schedule.

  1. Enable your auto top-up feature via the Balance details page from the Pay option. You can also enter the page through the low balance alert on the Pay page as well

FAQ

Can I configure multiple funding sources?

Yes. You can add up to 3 funding sources and assign each a priority ranking. The system follows a waterfall approach — it draws from the highest-priority source first, and only moves to the next source if the current one has insufficient funds.

Does auto top-up support both funding and trading account balances?

Currently, only a single account is supported at the moment.

In what order does the system deduct funds?

The system processes each configured asset in the order you have set. Once a given asset is fully exhausted, it moves to the next asset in your priority sequence.

Will the system retry automatically if a top-up fails?

No. The system makes a single attempt per trigger event. If the attempt fails, you'll be notified and will need to either top up manually or review and adjust your rule settings. Automatic retry functionality is planned for a future release.

What's a partial fill?

A partial fill occurs when the total amount transferred falls short of the configured top-up amount. This typically happens when one or more funding sources encounter an execution error during processing. This is considered an abnormal outcome — you'll receive a notification with the individual execution result for each funding source, so you can review what was and wasn't transferred.

What are the common reasons for a top-up failure?

Top-up failures generally fall into two categories:

  • Insufficient balance — a pre-execution check determines if you have enough crypto across selected funding sources to cover the configured top-up amount.

  • System error — an unexpected error occurs during the execution process itself.

What should I do if a top-up fails?

You'll be notified via both push notification and email alert. From there, you have two options: manually add funds directly to your Pay wallet, or navigate to your rule settings to adjust your funding sources or top-up amount to better align with your available balance.

Can I change my rule after it has been created?

Yes. You can edit your trigger threshold, top-up amount, and funding sources at any time — all changes take effect immediately. You also have the option to temporarily turn off the rule, which stops it from triggering while preserving your configuration, or permanently delete it if it's no longer needed.

Can I change my rule while a top-up is in progress?

No. Once the system has initiated an auto top-up execution, the rule is locked and can't be edited until the process completes. Once execution has finished, you're free to modify any aspect of the rule — threshold, top-up amount, or funding sources — and changes will take effect immediately.
